2.5 stars. I was so disappointing in this book. I first read Broken Harbor and loved it,surely I thought her other books would be just as thrilling. I was wrong. In the Wood is French's first novel. It shows. It's been a while since I've hated a main character THAT much. I could not stand Ryan and just barely tolerated Cassie. They both seemed inept and overly whiny. I get that Ryan had a horrific childhood. I expected it to make him a better detective. I was wrong. Another thing that bothered me was with all the talk of the "old crime" I expected it to be solved. In my opinion the book focused more on that then the murder at hand. I thought the idea of the murder of Katy Devlin was brilliant, I just wish French could have carried it out in better form.
